Car Parks

Specification

Failures within a majority of carpark sites that we survey and repair are due to incorrect specification of materials, insufficient depths of materials laid, and incorrect installation of drainage systems. We find our clients continually jetting and clearing drains, and patching potholes, which becomes unsightly and uneconomical over time, normally resulting in neglection, after spending money on several repair attempts, to find problems still remain. We carry out an initial site visit to check the site requirements, measurements, and assess surface damage and drainage. We work with our clients to decide on the overall aesthetics and specify the appropriate laying depths, techniques, products and materials against the weight of vehicles and traffic flow the car park site requires to withstand. Requirements to accommodate the use of HGVs and coaches, will include heavy duty iron work, such as manhole frames and covers, drainage covers, and low maintenance drainage systems, with the capacity to withstand over 40 tonnes of weight. Roadlays unrivalled technical and testing background, combined with our multi-disciplined team offer services that can resolve any of your carpark’s functionality issues, correctly specifying and installing materials and products for a long lasting, durable, safe and functional site.

Minimum disruption

The correct specification, and capability is paramount, however no contract runs efficiently without project management. Having proven expertise, completing many carpark projects across many environments in this field, we understand the position of our clients, and the associated issues faced while works commence within their facilities. We ensure trading and daily operations remain functional during our reinstatements and repairs, providing our clients with a full program of works, our safe systems of work, traffic management plans and always remain in communication throughout our projects. We can implement phase working, assigning parking space to remain open, and can co-ordinate night or evening working to accommodate our customers requirements.

On a budget

Roadlay caters to our clients’ budgetary requirements. There is not always a need to remove a worn surface with a road plainer in order to reinstate new layers of fresh material. Where there is sufficient kerb heights, some sites lend themselves to an “overlay” of new material, saving expensive excavation costs. We can prepare the existing grounds, repairing pot holes and undulations, and perform a screed of fresh material to re-level, before applying a hot spayed emulsion bond coat, and resurfacing. In addition, If deteriorated areas are localised, and surrounding areas are strong enough,  we can perform professional patch repairs, which depending on patch measurements, can be either hand laid or machine laid. Upon survey, Roadlay keep all options in mind, and will always offer the most economical method of repair.

Improving your Carpark

If you are a commercial business owner, you’ll be in charge of the environment in which your employees work. It is your responsibility to ensure that your premises are as safe and operational as they can be to not only keep your employees happy but your clients too.

This means keeping your building smart and functional and one area that is often neglected is the car park. This area may seem insignificant, but it could be your client’s first impression as well as the start to your employee’s day!

If your business premises include an area to park cars, there are several things you can do to make sure this area is attractive and well maintained.

Resurfacing

Resurfacing your car park can transform the outside area – which is often just car parking space. If it has been many years since the car park was either created or resurfaced, you’ll find that this will make a huge difference to the look and function of your building.

By resurfacing your car park, it will remain safe, functional, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. Roadlay can take care of your car park resurfacing project as well as any ancillary works including drainage, iron work and re-marking to add to your building’s appeal. In addition, if you are a building manager, you can optimise your rental income by making your building an attractive place to operate.

Safety first

It is important that your car park is not only functional but safe. In the winter here in Scotland we can sometimes see the day getting dark at 2.30pm, so lighting is essential for your employees and clients’ safety. By installing lighting in and around your car park you can ensure that no cars are parked in darkness and all pedestrianised areas are well lit.

Water pooling and the silt build up it causes from unfunctional drains and potholes can often result in hazards and complaints. Sitting water in our cold winters can transform a car park to an ice rink, presenting dangers to vehicles and pedestrians alike.

Future Proofing

If the decision has been made to resurface your carpark, it would be a wise time to consider any future plans that may require services like electricity, to avoid breaking back into a renovated surface. Examples of considerations are electric vehicle charging stations, flood lighting installations, security camera systems, fuel stations, portacabins, and electric gates. As a civil engineering contractor, we can future proof your carpark by installing the appropriate cable ducting as part of our preparations before resurfacing commences
