Roadlay were appointed Principle Contractor to create a new HGV haulage yard in spare ground adjacent to the Clients busy logistics centre for refrigerated goods. We established the ground make up required by determining the CBR of the soft ground. Preventing Expensive and Laborious Planning Applications and Strict Scottish Water and the Local Authority Drainage Requirements, Roadlay Specified an Alternative Fully SUDS ( sustainable urban drainage scheme ) Compliant Porous Asphalt Material. This allowed our Client to proceed in achieving their much-needed yard build without the need to adhere to these usual requirements. In order to withstand the demands of the heavy load-bearing HGV trailer feet, we designed high-performance concrete landing pad areas to facilitate the grounding of trailer feet accommodating all lengths and sizes. We specified C40 air-entrained concrete with Durus “Easy Finish“ structural fibres, which negated any need for steel mesh reinforcement. To ensure the safe passage of employees on adjacent walkways, we erected heavy-duty double beam Armco barriers with consideration to meeting various trailer heights on installation.
